G. Thomas Allen Quartet
From the time G. Thomas Allen hit the Chicago jazz scene, back in 2015, jamming in
some of the top rooms and sessions, absorbing the wisdom from vets like Bobby Groom, Pharez Whitted and Dennis Luxion, to his current status – he knew there would soon be a shift in his music career. He started in classical music as a former Los Angeles Opera Artist and performed in some of the most prestigious concert venues in the world including the Vatican, and toured extensively in Europe as a highly sought-after countertenor.
His falsetto vocals make him unusual for a male singer — and they helped him become the first man ever to win the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition on Nov. 14, 2021.
Thomas brings a unique approach to the genre, with his soul-infused phrases, paired with improvisation both of modern-day stylizing to straight-ahead, classic jazz. His four-octave range and warm timbre Is second to none and often compared to the likes of Philip Bailey and Bobby McFerrin.
