Gerald Veasley’s Unscripted Series presents Leo Birthday Bash – A Celebration of Leo Birthdays Gerald Veasley with Carol Riddick

Bassist Gerald Veasley and vocalist Carol Riddick team up again for a stellar musical celebration

Philadelphia-bred bassist Gerald Veasley wears a lot of hats. He started playing professionally in the late ’70s with the fusion band Reverie, and soon was performing with other Philadelphia stalwarts including Odean Pope, John Blake, and Grover Washington, Jr. One of many great Philly bassists to play with Joe Zawinul, Veasley toured and recorded with the legendary keyboardist’s Zawinul Syndicate for several years before launching his own career. He’s recorded nearly a dozen albums as a leader, the most recent being Live at South. Although known primarily as a smooth-jazz artist, Veasley’s chops and musicality are unquestioned and showcased most recently in his Electric Mingus Project, for which he plugs in the great bassist’s material and uses Mingus’ own words to connect the compositions.

Carol Riddick began her career performing with local bands in Philadelphia. It was after her performance at a wedding that she met James Lassiter who managed Jeff Townes and Will Smith a/k/a “Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince”. That introduction led to studio session work at Jeff Townes’ production company, “A Touch of Jazz, Inc.”. She began to tour with the duo, and was the featured vocalist at the wedding of Will Smith. Carol’s local buzz quickly spread on a national level which resulted in her signing a recording contract with Motown Records. She received high acclaim from the dance single “Take Your Time”, which was released in the United Kingdom. It received rave reviews and appeared on the charts for several weeks. She has written for and with a wide range of artists, including Terry Ellis of En Vogue.
