1Do you have a dress code?
We do not have a strict dress code, but suggest dressy-casual attire.
2What nights do you have live jazz?
We have live Jazz six nights per week. However, from time to time there is a special show scheduled on a Monday night, and SOUTH is available for private events on Mondays, too.
3Do I need a reservation for dinner?
We do accept walk ins, based on availability. Our dining hall and Jazz Club have limited seating and fill up rather quickly, so availability for walk-ins can be quite limited. We highly recommend making a reservation so a table can be ready for you upon your arrival at SOUTH.
4On what day(s) is there NO entertainment charge?
There is an entertainment charge each night with the exception of Tuesday nights when we feature our weekly Jazz Jam session. There is no entertainment charge on Tuesdays when we host the Jazz Jam. The session is hosted by rotating local musicians, and serve as an open mic night. It runs from 7-11PM. Reservations are suggested but not required. This is not a ticketed event.
5How is the Jazz Club set up ?
The Jazz Club has a combination of booths, banquet seating, and tables all facing toward the stage. We can seat up to 70 guests per show. There is a not a bad seat in the house! It's a very intimate space.
6Can I request a specific table for the Jazz Club?
The Jazz Club is seated on a first come - first served basis. If you prefer to sit in a specific seat, it is best to arrive as early as possible. The door to the Jazz Club open at 5:30PM, but you are able to check in for the show in person as early as when we open at 4:00PM.
7Do I have to eat in the Jazz Club?
No, there is no requirement to dine in the Jazz Club. However, the full dinner menu is available, as well as our bar menu, and full drink menu.
8Do I need to buy a ticket?
For some shows, the advance purchase of tickets is required. On other nights, we accept reservations, which can be made through our website <> and an entertainment charge will be added to your check along with any food or rink purchase you may make. For ticketed events, your ticket reserves a seat for dinner and the show. Please see our schedule of events for pricing, and which shows are by ticket only.
9How do I buy tickets?
To purchase tickets, simply go to bynumhospitality.com, click on "jazz line up” in the main navigation bar, scroll down to the event that you are interested in, then follow the prompts that lead you to ticketfly.com. You can also go directly to ticketfly.com, and search the artist you are interested in, or search for our venue name ‘SOUTH’. Tickets are not sold at the door.
10What is the difference between the Jazz Club and “regular dining” or dining in the Dining Hall?
The Jazz club features live music and the full dinner menu, while our Dining Hall is just for dining. The Jazz Club is a live performance venue, so we do ask that conversations are kept to a minimum. If you are looking for more of a social gathering, we suggest our dining hall.
11How is the Chef's Counter set up? Can I reserve a space at the counter?
The Chef's Counter is counter seating with a front row view of our beautiful open kitchen and all the action therein. The counter features an up-close, interactive experience with the kitchen. The counter seats are reservable, but are limited, and quickly fill up. A special Chef’s Counter tasting menu is available, and changes frequently.
12Do you offer anything special for birthdays?
Yes, we offer a complimentary birthday dessert, featuring Philadelphia’s own Franklin Fountain ice cream. Your server will present it to the table with a candle for your special guest.
13Can I bring my own dessert or birthday/celebration cake?
We have an in-house pastry chef, and will happily special order a cake for you. Our cakes are wonderful and include lemon buttercream and chocolate raspberry. Cakes come in two sizes, our 4inch, that feeds 2-4 guests, and our 6-inch, which feed upwards of 10 guests! If you would still like to bring in your own cake, we have a cake serving fee of $3.00 per guest.
14May I bring my own wine, beer or other alcoholic beverage?
We offer a full bar with many choices including wines by the glass and bottle, tap beers, bottled beers, specialty cocktails and over 50 Bourbons and American whiskeys. We are not a BYOB and do not allow any outside beverages to be brought in.
15Who are the owners of SOUTH?
SOUTH is owned by brothers, Robert Bynum and Benjamin Bynum. They are also the owners of Relish in West Oak Lane, Warmdaddy’s in South Philadelphia, Green Soul in Chestnut Hill (and coming soon to Center City). They previously owned and operated the long standing restaurant and Jazz club, Zanzibar Blue, for which they are widely known.
