MAJID KHALIQ : NO LOOKING BACK REDUX w/ YANCYABRIL | FRI & SAT JAN 24 & 25 | 7:00PM & 9:30PM

January 24, 2025 until January 25, 2025

Tonight, at SOUTH Jazz Kitchen, we are graced with the presence of an artist who doesn’t merely play music—he traverses it, dismantling its walls and illuminating its common soul. Majid Khaliq is a violinist, composer, and architect of sound who has made a mission of threading the needle between tradition and transformation.

His latest work, No Looking Back, is a testament to what happens when an artist is unafraid to let the past inform the future without clinging to nostalgia. Khaliq takes us on a journey where 1980s synth-pop rock, Golden Era Hip-Hop, and jazz fusion violin meet—not as strangers, but as siblings separated by time, reunited in a tapestry of melody and rhythm. These influences don’t clash; they converge, creating a sound that is as much a meditation on history as it is an invitation to reimagine what music can be.

Majid’s violin does not whisper politely—it speaks boldly, stretching its voice beyond the constraints of its traditional role. It sings with the clarity of Itzhak Perlman, grooves with the urgency of Herbie Hancock, and dares to riff with the adventurousness of Return to Forever. Khaliq doesn’t simply compose; he choreographs—his orchestra a team of dancers moving through the spaces where genre becomes irrelevant and the pulse of humanity becomes undeniable.
